Some time after the death of his first wife, William John Sampson migrated to Michigan in the USA. William started as a miner and became a shift captain with the Quincy Mining Company (copper industry) of Michigan. The 1900 & 1910 US censuses have his family living in Franklin, Houghton, Michigan.  In the 1900 census his cousin James Thomas Sampson was living at his residence.The 1920 US census has William living at 92 Frenchtown Road, Quincy, Houghton, Michigan. City Directories indicate that by 1921 William moved to 305 Cass Street, Owosso, Michigan and had a variety of occupations being fireman, labourer and varnisher.
