William and Lavinia lived in Burra, Broken Hill and then Port Pirie. In 1883 William was a carpenter by trade. After marrying Lavinia he continued to live in Burra where their first two children were born. The family is thought to have moved to Broken Hill about 1890, where William worked in the mines. Whilst living in Broken Hill their next five children were born. In 1899 they moved to Port Pirie where William worked for Broken Hill Associated Smelters. Their last child James  was born at Port Pirie in 1900. Lavinia in her later years lived with her daughter Elizabeth O’Brien at Nuriootpa, South Australia.
