By the 1871 English census John was 11 months of age. This confirms his birth year was 1870.

John would have been about 4 years of age when his father died. The 1881 English census finds John living with his uncles and aunt at Pengilly Mill.

The 1900 US census reveals that in 1890 John migrated to the US and settled in the Fayal township of Minnesota. The record also indicates that John married in 1896 to Elizabeth Williams. 

By the age of 40 John’s occupation has changed from blacksmith to foreman of construction in iron mine.

John & Elizabeth were living in the city of Eveleth at the time of the 1920 US census. 

John & Elizabeth continued living in Eveleth with John being a road foreman. 

John & Elizabeth continued living in Eveleth. This census indicates level of education recieved.
