Miriam Sampson 1670-1709

Miriam Sampson

Second child of Matthew and Jane Sampson

Baptised: 12 Jun 1670 Perranuthnoe, Cornwall

Died: Age 39

Buried: 4 May 1709 Perranuthnoe, Cornwall

The parish records indicate that Miriam’s mother, Jane died months before Miriam’s baptism. This could mean that Jane died from a complication resulting from the birth of Miriam. It is not known what happened with Miriam’s father, as he is not mentioned again in the parish records. One wonders if after her brother John married and had children that Miriam was living with them and helping raise the family. After Miriam died in 1709, John and his wife Chrisitan, named their next daughter after Miriam. When this child also died they named the next and final daughter after Miriam. The name was honoured and used across the next few generations.

The name Miriam was an important key piece of information that helped to link several generations living in Perranthnoe.
