These four girls are all sisters. Their parents John & Grace Sampson had died some time before this census was taken. Their eldest brother John and his family are listed immediately after their entry on the census and are listed immediately below here. It is therefore assumed that they were living next door to their brother John. It is also assumed that they were living in Gears Lane as this was listed as the place of residence on the parish death records for their mother Grace who died in 1831. It is also likely that this or the residence of their brother John was the home of their parents.

Miner This family migrated to South Australia on the La Bella Alliance arriving in Port Adelaide on 1 July 1847. Family settled in the copper mining town of Burra.

Carrier Surname should read Sampson. This couple were married the year before on 18 Feb 1840. William was the son of a Richard Sampson and it is assumed that this is the Richard whom married Jane Rowe in 1795 at Perranuthnoe. Bridget Samson nee Fox.

Miner’s widow Hannah James was a daughter of John & Hannah Sampson and was therefore an aunty to John & Ann Sampson whom migrated to Burra, South Australia in 1847. Hannah lived out her life in the Gears, Goldsithney and died in 1876.

Miner Thomas migrated in 1848 to the USA and his family followed in 1849 on the ship Mecca which left Penzance and arrived at New York. By 1856 Thomas had settled as a farmer in Jefferson, Fairfield County, Iowa. Thomas is believed to be the brother of the four sisters listed at the top of this documet and the younger brother to John Sampson whom married Ann Branwell. Listed at the end of this census entry is James Sampson (a brother to Thomas) who would later move to Devon and marry Nancy Spears.

Thomas is believed to be the son of Richard Sampson and Sarah Rowe. Mary the daughter of John Sampson and Mary Cornish. William married Susan Gilbert. No children.
Richard married Jane Runell in 1848 at Perranuthnoe.
James married Mary Floyd in 1845 at Perranuthnoe.
Henry died in 1849.
Jane married Joseph Harry in 1847 at Perranuthnoe.
